We have not won anything yet. Vitesse Arnhem will still believe in their chances of qualifying. that’s why we must be more hungry than our opponent.
Basel are currently not thinking that far ahead. Marcel Koller´s team needs to make sure they take advantage of the positive result they achieved in the Netherlands and succeed in their 2nd leg fixture. A glimpse of the past keep FCB´s hopes high: Twice before, Basel needed to survive two knock-out rounds in order to qualify for the group stage of the UEFA Europa League. In both occasions the 20-times, Swiss Champions were successful.
FCB shouldn’t be overconfident on Thursday night. Basel´s late goal in the 94th minute didn’t seem to shock the Dutch side as much as their coach, Leonid Slutski anticipated last Thursday. The Dutch league kicked off last weekend. Vitesse Arnhen faced FC Groningen, beating them 5:1. Vitesse will have travelled to Basel with a lot of self confidence.
Their latest victory in the dutch league will have given vitesse confidence. We have also won our last 3 games. Therefore, confidence meets confidence.
