Ruedi Zbinden immediately takes the lead as FC Basel´s new sports director. The 60 year old from Rheinfelden was FCB´s head scout since 2002. His Career at FCB started in 1982, as a successful striker.
FC Basel 1893 is happy to have found an internal solution in regards to the club´s vacant sports director position. Ruedi Zbinden has been successfully connected to the club for many years and is familiar with FCB´s values and tradition. The club´s management is convinced that Zbinden is the right man for the job; his large network and broad experience will support the club in developing what it takes to build a successful future.
Ruedi Zbinden started his FCB career as a player in the 1982/1983 season. The 23 year old striker moved from FC Nordstern to FC Basel, where he played for the club´s 1st team for three and a half years. Zbinden then transferred to FC Grenchen, FC Wettingen and AC Bellinzona before returning to Basel in 1989. Ruedi played at FCB for another four years before making his final move to AC Bellinzona, before retiring in the Summer of 1989 at the age of 35.
Between 1996 and 1999 Zbinden coached various FCB youth-teams and between 1999 and 2001 he was Christian Gross´ assistant. After his time as assistant coach, Zbinden started to develop FCB´s scouting department and took over additional responsibilities within the club´s sport and transfer department.
